The Black Beauty Lounge is the longest-running bar in the Hill District, operating at the same site for more than 50 years. The lounge was established In 1972, under the ownership of Roberta Brassell aka "Ms. Bert."

Even those who have not patronized the lounge may recognize it as a notable landmark - one side of the building is covered with a large-scale mural celebrating the work of August Wilson.
